The PAWSitive Therapy Troupe is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to sharing registered therapy dogs with individuals in a wide variety of health care and educational settings--bringing comfort, support and encouragement through the unique healing power of the human-animal bond.

Therapy Dog Skills Class

This 4-week positive-reinforcement based class covers all basic skills necessary for a dog / handler team to work safely and confidently in a variety of health care and educational settings, and is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED before your take your actual Pet Partner Skills / Aptitude test. Critical obedience / teamwork skills are reviewed - such as walking on a loose leash despite distractions, greeting people and other dogs politely, prompt recalls with distractions, and sitting politely for petting and grooming. Specific skills and behaviors necessary for effective therapy work are also covered in each class, as is familiarization with hospital equipment. 

Prerequisites:

  1. Completion of the Pet Partner Handler Workshop; and
  2. At least two group obedience classes, or permission of instructor.
