| How do you know that your dog enjoys being a therapy dog? |
Newfies are very "low key," but her energy and enthusiasm are palpable when she sees me
"packing up" to go on a therapy visit. She gladly takes part in the therapy activities (as much as her
"mellowness" will allow!") and she never tires of greeting anyone and everyone who comes within
licking distance of her long tongue. |

A couple of years ago a friend who had a small child (about 2 years old) was taking care of Grace
for us when we were out of town. The parents were at work, the babysitter was inside the house,
and the little boy and Grace were in the fenced-in backyard. The babysitter looked out to check on them,
only to discover to her horror that the backyard was empty. She raced around in desperation looking for them,
got to the front of the house and saw them down the street toward the end of the block. As the babysitter described,
Grace was walking right next to the little tyke like a bodyguard; she had no leash on but she stuck right by his side.
The babysitter was astounded -- a gratifying end to a frightening story! |
