Introduction to Animal-Assisted Therapy

This positive-reinforcement based class covers the basic skills necessary for a dog / handler team to become certified as therapy dogs. The skills necessary to pass the Canine Good Citizen test are covered, and they include walking on a loose leash, greeting people and other dogs politely, prompt recalls with distraction, and sitting politely for petting and grooming. Specific skills necessary for hospital work are also covered, as is familiarization with hospital equipment. This class is taught as a clicker training class. A practice certification test will be given on the last day of class. Prerequisite: Completion of basic obedience class. Class fee includes Delta Society Home Study manual.
